About
Stargate Command's chief medical officer, Dr. Carolyn Lam is a civilian given the plum appointment by General Jack O'Neill himself. She is General Hank Landry's daughter, and arrived on the base soon after he took command. Their relationship has been strained for years, and she has implied that she might have turned down the job had she been told that Landry would be in charge. Doctor Lam replaced Dr. Janet Fraiser more than a year after Fraiser's tragic death in the line of duty.

Personality
Carolyn is often described as stubborn as she refuses to let something go until all possibilities surrounding it are explored. She's also been described as stubborn by her father because she refused for the longest time to forgive him for something he really couldn't help. Rarely opening herself up to those she doesn't know, Carolyn can easily come off as secretive, snobby , cold and distant - making it hard for others to get to know her. Even when she'd been working in the SGC for a year, some of the people working there had no idea that she was General Landry's daughter, and it wasn't even her that let them know. It was Colonel Mitchell snapping off on a couple of crewmen who had made inappropriate remarks about her. She has a no nonsense demeanor, she rarely if ever is one to mince words, a fact that sometimes doesn't sit well with her fellow co-workers.
She doesn't really seem to know how to react to others on a personal level. Professionally, she's confident in her skills as a doctor, but outside of that she has issues relating to others on a more personal level.
Carolyn has had a nasty habit of holding on to past hurts, resentments, and guilt - and to keep such feelings to herself. Though she knows she needs to learn to forgive and let go, and also learn to express her feelings openly and directly, rather than hiding them. She spent a majority of her life resenting her father and the fact that his career seemed more important than his family. She wasn't even sure she was going to stay long at the SGC due to the fact that he was in charge of the base. She held onto this resentment even when she was working under him at the SGC and it took him nearly dying due to the prior plague for her to let him know exactly how she felt and for her to begin rebuilding their relationship.
Level headed, she is more likely to spend a few days thinking something over carefully than making a spur of the moment decision. She much prefers to make decisions based on logic, science and facts rather than emotional decisions. Being a person with an analytical nature, she can't help but interpret her world through pure science and fact. She's always ready to take on a challenge, something that was needed to help her to specialize in infectious diseases and in turn work for the CDC. It's also one of the reasons she didn't turn down the position of being in charge of the medical department at the SGC. When Daniel Jackson and Vala Ma Doran (still suffering the effects of the kor mak bracelets) were connected to the Ancient Terminal Device, they collapsed, and became Doctor Lam's first case. She dealt with the situation admirably, though she was understandably annoyed with Doctor Bill Lee's attempts to free them from the device as it might have an adverse effect on her patients.

Appearance
Personality Continued
She has genuine concern about the people she works with and for her patients though. This helps her in her line of work, and some times it appears as though she becomes a little to emotionally involved in her cases, ie saving the life of a Sodan Jaffa after nine hours of surgery and then sitting by his side until she was sure he was going to pull through, She has a dry sense of humor and sometimes people find it hard to know when she's joking and when she's being completely serious. She's proved to be a competent replacement for Janet Fraiser, even if she lacked Janet's warmth and personable nature, and always put her patients' health and well-being first no matter the objections or who she was treating.
Her temper is a thing rarely seen, but when it is forced to come out, it can be Hell. She easily makes points to win her argument, or will be quick to call others out on their crap. But if you get her into such a bad state, then it would be better for you just to shut up, back down, and let her get it out of her system. She makes most people work for their trust, and if one gets it, then they are very lucky. However, if they betray it, they should not be expecting any more.
While Lam obviously cares about her job and the people she has to take care of, she's not as close as she could be. She feels a little distanced from them (mainly Daniel, Teal'c and Sam) due to the fact that they were so close to Janet Fraiser, the doctor she replaced. With Vala and Cam, it's not as pronounced and obviously her relationship with General Landry is completely different than the ones she has with the others. With Vala and Cam, there wasn't the barrier that she was a beloved friend's replacement, and because of that, she feels that there is a bit more area to maneuver.
